Australian Institute of Architects (NSW Chapter) – Champions of Change Charter

On Thursday this week, architectural leaders from 10 of the top architectural firms in Australia, signed a Charter for the Australian Institute of Architects (NSW Chapter), Champions of Change initiative. Principals of the 10 firms met at the AIA offices at Tusculum and agreed to work together over a 12 month period to promote and support equitable workplaces within the architectural profession. Firms signing the charter included; Crone Partners, Cox, Architectus, Hassell, BVN, SJB, Woods Bagot, PTW and Batessmart.

The Champions of Change Program has a simple theory behind it; men of influence have the capacity to change the status quo.

Crone Partners look forward to learning more about how we can contribute to this program and as a collective group find creative ways to help change the work environment in Australia. Our aim is to be a more rich, diverse and flexible work place attracting the best talent into the architectural profession and providing men and woman with equal opportunities.

At Crone we promote Diversity in all facets; gender, cultural, age and skills.

what does a james bond house look like?

Modern, clean lines. Minimalist detailing with huge concrete cantilevers. A large entertainment deck, with a sleek wet edge pool for the parties. Glass and Steel. Walls that fold away, slide and pivot. Framed views and vistas. Exaggerated vertical spaces, fast cars and opulence.

This is a fun job!

180B comes to life

After months of construction work in the basement levels of 180B the building is finally coming alive. The amazing truss structure that spans the railway lines in Brisbane is exposed at ground level and can be seen over 5 levels of the podium. Hyder Structures worked closely with Crone Partners to design an innovative structure that spans the railway tunnels with diagonal bracing and uses the core itself to straddle the railway lines.

The unique side core commercial office building is 34 levels in height and has over 60,000m2 of NLA with large open floor plates.

It is a thrill to see this image provided by Watpac Constructions and see the shape of the office floor plate coming out of the ground, having worked on the project since its early conception in 2008. Crone Partners won the project in a Design Competition and have enjoyed working collaboratively in the design process with our client Daisho.

I’m also impressed seeing our site Architect Nick Grbavac giving good scale in his yellow hard hat in front of one of these amazing columns. Nice shot Nick.
