Macquarie University Incubator

We visited the Incubator at Macquarie University this week. What a stunning timber facade with internal spaces designed for creativity, to inspire our future entrepreneurs.

Bruce Masterplan

Exciting to see the Bruce Masterplan Project develop from Concept through to Marketing Phase. My first project collaborating with AURORA Design, since starting my own practice in February 2018. I have known the director of AURORA Design, Maurice Mandalinic for over 24 years and its great to work with someone who not only has extensive experience in Residential Design and Delivery, but who is also a good friend. Equally impressive is TP Dynamic’s vision to improve the Urban Streetscape of Bruce through quality design and their ability to promote innovative and creative design solutions.

nagakin capsule tower

Having visited Japan in 2016, I was delighted to find these images in Pinterest. I drove past the Nagakin Capsule Tower (photo below) designed by Kisho Kurowaka and always wanted to know what it looked like inside. Some lessons to learn from this 1972 building on how to design micro, affordable housing for the masses.

The future is prefabricated

Prefabricated construction is in its infancy but with increasing demand on tradition construction and speed and the sustainability benefits of prefabrication, could this new manufacturing industry change the way Australia builds?

Surfers Paradise Project To Have World’s Most Slim Fitting Architectural Design – TheUrbanDeveloper.com

The beauty of slender buildings. An example of the design talent of Rothelowman and the collaborative process between architect and engineer. The result. An innovative, parametric design that saves costs on structure and provides sheltered balconies from the wind.

japanese inspiration

The images below are select photographs of a trip I took to Japan in July this year. Tokyo was very clean, the food amazing and the people ultra friendly and polite and I will go back again……….but these are all cliches you’ve heard before, possibly from every person you know who has visited that part of the world. Do you know anyone who hasn’t liked Japan?

Hopefully though, you haven’t seen some of the amazing buildings I photographed on my travels and you get to view them in real life some day. Being the architectural nerd that I am, I researched before my trip as well as trawled the streets looking for inspirational architecture. I spent most of my time in Tokyo, but also took a day trip to an ominous Shogun temple in Nikko, followed by an Onsen in the middle of a green and wooded hillside. You would be happy to know there are no photographs of that wonderful experience.

rothelowman – cracking the matrix

Rothelowman have 140 staff in offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The Melbourne office has over 80 staff and is located in a warehouse building in Southbank, featuring a beautiful truss roof. The architecture and interiors of the office fit-out showcase the firms skills in commercial design and their ability to create wonderful spaces to be in.

This is my 4th week at Rothelowman and with my business partner Ben Pomroy we aim to grow the business in NSW, through innovative and creative thinking – an emerging design firm in the Sydney market. Rothelowman has 25 years of experience in a variety of project types including; residential, commercial, retail, master plan and mixed-use. Our ability to integrate Interior Design with Architecture, provides our clients with a holistic approach to design.

I posted a photo on Instagram when I visited the Melbourne office last week and could not believe the attention it received. Generally happy to receive 20 likes…. actually even 1 is good!. This photo cracked the matrix, gaining over 1000 likes. I believe this was a sign, I had made the right choice to move to Rothelowman, but happy to hear of any other reasons for this anomaly?
