AIA Mentoring Program 2015_ Stukel Stone Architects

It is a great pleasure being involved in the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA), NSW Chapter Mentoring Program this year. As a first timer in the program, I was a bit concerned about what was expected of me, but the AIA provided exceptional support and training sessions to help Mentors and Mentees get the most out of their sessions.

What made the job even easier was being matched with Daniel Stukel Beasly and his wife Tobhiyah Stone Feller, who are founders of their practice named Stukel Stone Architects. It is a very interesting marriage of Architecture and Theatre which brings to the firm a unique spin on design. Together we have identified clear goals in our sessions and I am amazed at how quickly these are being achieved. Looking forward to seeing the firm grow even more over the next few years!

garden towers update

The name “Garden Towers” was derived from a number of green initiatives in the master plan, including green landscaped gardens, green roofs, a green wall at the entrance of the residential development and green sky lobbies designed every 4 levels of the tower.

Garden Towers is an AYALA Land Premier Grade development located in Central Makati in the heart of the Retail Precinct. Our role was the early design phases; Concept Master Plan, Schematic Design and Design Development Review and the local architect AIDEA produced the Detail Documentation.

The Condo’s are selling extraordinarily well. In August 2015 Tower 1 was 92% sold and Tower 2, 70% sold. I wish I had the money and I would have bought one myself.

The Concept Design for the James Bond House was originally designed in Oct 2014. The brief was an architects dream come true. Unlimited budget, challenging sloping site in Cebu, young edgy and stylish clients with the desire to create a modern, minimalist box for their home. The resulting design is in stark contrast to the Spanish villa vernacular of the Cebu Hills area but sensitive to the topography of the land and the environment. From the projects onset, the clients were on-board with our vision, excited by the design and loved the architectural style that we were proposing. It made you feel pretty damn good about being an architect and thoroughly enjoying the collaborative Design Process. Typically, this kind of smooth design process, just doesn’t happen. But sometimes dreams don’t fully come true and need a little bit of Value Management. Not a bad thing in the scheme of things but essential to turning the vision into reality.

We were very happy to hear this week the project is forging ahead and following review of the local architects drawings pleased to see the Design Intent was respected in the modifications to the Schematic Design.

The property market is going gangbusters in Sydney and the Sydney surrounding suburbs. Some of the work I’ve currently been involved in is preparing IM’s (Information Memorandum’s) and Concept Design Reports for Clients and Real Estate Agents, to help them understand the full potential of their development. We work together to come up with a strategy, maximizing the sites potential and creating a Vision. The site can then either be sold or developed by the clients themselves. Below is a write-up prepared for the sale of 12 Help Street, Chatswood and CGI images of the building designed for our client and CI Australia.

 

12 Help St is an exciting opportunity in the heart of Chatswood. The site offers the potential to contribute to the growing CBD skyline, promoting tall buildings along the rail corridor. It is conveniently located close to transport links to the Sydney CBD and only a few minutes away from Chatswood Station, Specialty Retail, Restaurants, Markets, Parks and the Pacific Highway. Future redevelopment offers the purchaser the chance to create a landmark destination. Potential arises for an iconic tower, 38 levels in height, with an FSR currently not utilised at 10.5:1.This unique opportunity allows for a variety of programs including commercial, residential, retail, hotel and serviced apartment uses, in a thriving Chatswood market.
